WEEK 6 DAY 2 THE FOUNDER

 WEEK SIX: THE CHURCH

DAY # 2: THE FOUNDER OF THE CHURCH

MEMORY VERSE: “… and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.”    Matthew 16:18

The Greek word for church is “ecclesia” from which we get our English word “ecclesiology.” Or “eccelesiastical.”  It literally means those who have been called out from among. Hence, the called out ones. God has called us out of a lost world of sinners and placed us into the Body of Christ. We are the church. We have been called out and set apart by the Lord Himself.

The very first time “ecclesia” is used in the New Testament is found in the passage we are using for our memory verse.

The Church is built upon the rock (the truth of Peter’s confession). That Jesus Christ is the Rock, the foundation. The Son of the Living God. Upon that truth, Jesus will build His church! Jesus is the Founder and the Foundation. (I Corinthians 3:11)

The Church actually began in the mind and purpose of God before time began. See II Timothy 1:8-9. Prophesied by Jesus in Matthew 16 and finding its historical fulfillment at Pentecost in Acts 2.

The Church belongs to Jesus. He is its Founder! “Only Jesus Can Satisfy Your Soul”
