TEMPTATION #3

 TEMPTATION NUMBER THREE

TEXT: “And Satan took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, if you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you, and on their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.”  Luke 4:9-11

This is Temptation #3: “Jump, Jesus Jump! And your Father will send angels to catch and protect you., Show that there is a God. Put him to the test. Prove it.” That is what Satan was saying to Jesus.

Christ’s response was simple as he saw through the charade of the temptation. In Luke 4:11 Jesus responded by saying, “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.”

Man does not and cannot test God or prove God.

You cannot deal with God that way. Had Jesus jumped, by the way, He would have died! God does not respond to man’s ultimatum. God desires us to know Him and trust Him by faith, not by sight and self reliance.

It is a temptation we face every single day. Will we commit ourselves to the Lord and trust him for all things or will we commit ourselves to only that which we can see?

Yes, Jesus was tested in every way but yet He was without sin.  Hebrews 4:15!

Look what happened in v. 11 “and when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.”
