THE JOY OF JESUS
TEXT: “Looking unto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despised the shame and is seated at the right hand of God.” Hebrews 12:2
What is it in life that brings you joy? Real joy? Lasting joy?
What does life offer that finds you the most joyful?
Is it material and physical? House? Car? Leisure? Recreation? A nice present? Sports? Money?
Do you know what brought Jesus the most joy?
Being obedient to His Father!
Fulfilling the Father’s purpose for His life!
Verse 2 says that He went to the most humiliating place on earth and there He died a shameful death but He did it with joy! How in the world can a man do that?
Benjamin Breckingridge Warfield, a noted theologian of old, said this: “Joy He had; but not the joy of mere pagan delight in living, not the delusive joy of a hope destined for failure but the deep exaltation of a conqueror setting the captives free.” Hebrews 2:14
Only in eternity will we understand something of the joy of Christ in His greatest hour of darkness! Thank Him today that He has paid your sin debt and set you free to be the person He has redeemed you to be!
