The greatest expression of racism and social injustice was not the senseless and brutal murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May of 2020. It was not the cowardly assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968. It was not even the extermination of six million Jews in the furnaces of Adolf Hitler in the early 1940’s.
The most unjust act ever perpetrated upon the life and dignity of any individual was the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Consider the following:
1. He was the Son of God … in the flesh.
2. He never sinned, not even once.
3. He was always helping and healing others.
4. The Romans were Gentiles.
5. Religious leaders were Jews.
6. Pilate even released a criminal named Barabbas.
7. People cried out for the crucifixion of the perfect man.
8. He broke no laws.
9. He harmed no individual.
10.He loved all men.
And yet, He was nailed ALIVE to an old rugged cross. Three days later He arose from the dead and authenticated all His claims and teachings as the Son of the living God. Daylight turned into total darkness from 12 noon until 3 p.m. A tremendous earthquake shook the earth. People arose from the dead and walked into town. (see Matthew 27:45-54)
Standing behind it all is the invisible hand of a providential God. It was God whose sovereign shadow stands behind all the tragic events of Mount Calvary and the resurrection. Look at it. Racism. Social injustice. Unfairness. Inequality. Sin. Sinners. Criminals. And REDEMPTION. It is all right there. Only God can take such a horrible tragedy and turn it into a glorious triumph. (Romans 8:28)
Are you listening World? Are you listening America? Are you listening Church?
