THINGS AND MORE THINGS!

In Luke 12:15, Jesus said this, “beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Go back and re-read that. A person’s life does not consist of things. Consists = made exclusively of, properly evaluated by, adequately assessed by things!

Do you have any “things”? I do. I have lots of “things”. I even have a “thing-a-ma-jig” or two. We have lots and lots of “things.” Old “things.” New “things.” Store- bought “things.” Hand built “things.” Expensive “things.” Cheap “things.” And these “things”, inherently, are not wrong.

But the priority, pursuit and possession of those “things” should not define us. Nor should they direct us. Plus, you cannot take any of those “things” with you when you die. All of those “things” and I do mean all of them, will be left behind. Job 1:21 declares that "Naked you came into this world and naked shall you leave it." (Not literally, I hope, when you leave it)

It is worth remembering that “all those things come from God who made heaven and earth.” He created them and He sustains them. An interesting verse is found in I Timothy 6:17 where it says specifically that “God gives us richly ALL THINGS to enjoy.” Intriguing verse, isn’t it?

Every “thing” you have is a gift of God. (I Corinthians 4:7)
Including your salvation!
Enjoy them. Prioritize them.
The Christian life doesn’t consist of “things” but of a personal relationship to the Creator and Sustainer and Giver of all those “things” we have! An individual relationship with Jesus Christ!

God first. Always.
Others second. Always.
Things last! Always.

Amen!
