JESUS IS OUR PRIEST

JESUS IS OUR PRIEST

The second aspect of the role of a mediator is that of a priest. Christ executed His office as priest by dying on the cross for the sins of His people and by making continual intercession for them. Priests have two primary responsibilities:

Make sacrificial offerings for the people.

Make intercession for them before God.

And each depends on the other. And that is exactly what Jesus did in His death and resurrection. Plus, He ever lives to intercede for His people.

As our Priest, Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice in offering Himself as our Substitute.

He did not offer the blood of bulls and goats and rams.

He shed His  own blood for our sins.

Because of His death and resurrection, He now entreats His Father to bless us.

He represents us before God.

He is our Advocate, Intercessor.  See I John 2:2

The book of Hebrews is rich with references to our Lord Jesus being our great High Priest and is worthy of our time and study. See Hebrews 2:17-18; 4:15; 5:7-8; 7:25 and 9:12-14.
