PROPITIATION
We are discussing and looking at some blessings that come our way by virtue of the blood of Jesus. We have peace with God. We have forgiveness of sin. And here is another word. A big word. A long word. A hard to pronounce word. BUT --- it is a Bible word: propitiation.
I John 4:10 “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Read slowly and carefully.
The blood of Jesus satisfied the justice of God.
The justice of God demanded that every sin be paid for.
Justice demanded payment of the penalty of a broken law. Every sin is worthy of death. If you go to heaven and escape Hell and judgment, who is gonna pay for your sins?
Enter the Lord Jesus Christ.
He was our Substitute, our Sacrifice.
The judgment of God fell on Him at the cross and cost Him His life.
His shed blood was the payment for your sins, for He had no sins, remember?
Jesus propitiated the wrath of God for you.
Wrath fell on Him and not you.
He endured sin’s curse and condemnation so you would not have to.
He averted, He turned away that wrath by His sacrifice.
Justice was satisfied. The broken law and its penalty was paid.
And Jesus did it all! And grace was given to you and me!
