THE HOLINESS OF JESUS
TEXT: “And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you. And the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the child to be born will be called holy --- the Son of God.” Luke 1:35
The above verse was the answer to Mary when she was told that she was going to have a baby and knowing that she had never known a man, physically and sexually. That baby was to be named Jesus and He would be holy.
Permit me to quote Charles Haddon Spurgeon:
“Men who have flung aside the great truth of the inspiration of Scriptures and have been prepared, even to make light of Heaven and Hell, have, nevertheless, gazed with astonishment upon the character of the Lord Jesus Christ. His life is unrivalled among all the sons of men. His life was absolutely perfect in every way… there is none like Him. There is no defect in Him and there is no excess! He is the joy of God’s own heart.”
Seraphim fly around the Throne of God 24/7 and they cry constantly, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty.”
There may be some things in Scripture that we can debate but the sinlessness of Christ is not one of them. He was perfect and holy in every way. The true Gospel depends on this truth. And that is why His sinlessness is directly related to His death on the cross as our Substitute.
