THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS PART II

THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS PART II

TEXT: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”  Hebrews 4:15

Could Jesus Christ have sinned when He was tempted?

Was His temptation real?

Here in Hebrews 4:15 you find your answer! Jesus Christ was tempted -- in every way -- just as you and I are! Yet, He was without sin! He never yielded to sin in any way. His temptations were authentic and real ...but He never sinned!

Jesus Christ is God.

Jesus Christ is man.

Jesus Christ is the God Man. I Timothy 2:5.

He is one person but with two natures. He had a divine nature and He had a human nature.

That human nature was in union with the divine logos or Word. His human nature was perfect, because of His birth. He had no earthly father and was not born a sinner. He was born with a perfect human nature joined in union with His divine nature. He was born holy!

Think about this: If Jesus Christ could have sinned --- it is atrocious and almost blasphemous --- to think that way. But if He could have sinned, God would have been implicated in all that Jesus did. God is justified and revealed by Jesus. God is glorified by Jesus and made visible by Jesus,

Therefore, IF Jesus could have sinned --- God would have sinned and therefore He would not be God because Jesus IS God!

I bet you have never even entertained the question, have you?

We shall explain further next time.
