FREEDOM - IT AIN'T FREE!

Former rocker Janis Joplin recorded a song about 50 years ago that was entitled “Me and Bobby McGee.” Do you remember it? Kris Kristofferson wrote the song  and he had a big hit with the song as well. Roger Miller also recorded it and it rose to #12 on the Billboard charts. A song well written and well done, by all three  artists. There is one arresting lyric in a verse that I have always remembered that says this:

“Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose
Nothing, don’t mean nothing, if it ain’t free”

I guess I have remembered it because freedom is much more than a word that means nothing left to lose. Freedom is a God given right that reverberates with power and joy and opportunity. Freedom of speech, assembly, worship, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is something that must constantly and vigilantly be defended. Americans today have many freedoms because men and women before them have paid the ultimate sacrifice of their lives to secure and protect that freedom. America was founded upon the concept of individual liberty and freedom. But it isn’t free and it certainly is much more than "nothing left to lose!"

So today, take a little time to give God thanks for America and all its freedom fighters. Present, past and future. We are blessed to live in the greatest country in the history of the world. I am glad and proud to be an American!

Acts 17:26 > “And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him.” It is a God thing! The Lord put you in America. The Lord made you an American. Grace, perhaps? Indeed!
