THE DECLINE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE

The Roman Empire lasted longer than any other government, nation or country ever has. Rome ruled the world from 800 B.C. until approximately 450 A.D. That is a total of almost 1250 years. By comparison the United States has been a nation for only 244 years. But like all empires, there is an end! They all eventually fall!

There are many reasons as to why the Roman Empire fell. Some of them are listed below and are relevant to our nation. Some of the ones listed by J. Edward Gibbon in The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire are as follows:

1.    Internal strife among leaders

2.    Destruction of family through divorce and immorality

3.    Higher and higher taxes

4.    Mad craze for pleasure and sports

5.    Decline of religion even though Rome was declared a Christian nation by the Edict of Milan in 313 A.D. Rituals traded for form and function.

All five of those things are running rampant in America today! And subsequently, our nation stands in need of a spiritual revival. It seems that every way we look our nation is disintegrating from within. Where are our moral leaders and why are they suddenly silent? Politics has never been more vicious. Education has never been more liberal. The Media has never been more biased. We are currently in the midst of a sexual revolution. The church is losing membership.

In order for our nation to survive, there must be a return to the God of history and Biblical revelation. To His ways and His truths and His grace!

Psalm 33:12 says “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.”
