Deeply imbedded in the human psyche is the mindset that “I can fix it.” It is a “move over, move out of the way and let me fix it” attitude. Have you ever had a family member who was an alcoholic? You tried to fix it and were unsuccessful. If you have ever known someone who is a drug addict, you wanted to fix it but soon discovered that you could not fix that person. Same way with a rebellious teenager. Or a lazy, slothful person. Or a friend who will not attend church. You want to fix it but you cannot.
WHY? That is THE question. The reason is simple. Only God can fix people. You can repair a car if it is broken down. You can fix something around the house but you cannot fix the human heart! Only God can do that! The problems that people face are from within – from inside the human heart. You can pass new laws. You can implement new policies. You can elect new leaders but only God can change the heart of a man or woman.
In Mark 7:20 Jesus says that “for from within, out of the heart of a man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. All these evil things come from within and they defile a person.”
This is why people hate Jesus. This is why people want to rid society of the Bible. It is packed with the profound truth about man’s primary problem and that is he needs a new heart. And only God can give you a new heart!
Ezekiel 36:26 “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you …and cause you to walk in my statutes and cause you to obey my word.” The making and giving a new heart is a God thing.
You can’t fix it. Always remember that!
Admit it.
Recognize it.
Practice it.
